FORMER Amsterdam Admiral Spergon Wynn could become the 23rd quarterback with NFL Europe League experience to start in the NFL when the Minnesota Vikings face the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

Wynn, who played for the Admirals in 2001, is in line to replace the injured Todd Bouman, who also made a name for himself in NFL Europe with the Barcelona Dragons in 1999.

Bouman is nursing a sore thumb after being knocked out of last weekend's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars early in the first quarter.

Wynn stepped in to replace Bouman and completed 24 of 39 attempts for 218 yards during a 33-3 loss to the Jaguars.

Bouman has been sidelined for much of the Vikings' practice week and head coach Dennis Green is leaning more towards using Wynn under center at Lambeau Field in Week 16.

Green said: "Todd did not work the walk through on Thursday morning. Spergon Wynn has looked good in practice this week and we'll see how he performs in practice ahead of the game."

If Wynn does become the 23rd quarterback with NFL Europe League experience to start in the NFL, he will have the complete backing of his team mates.

Running back Michael Bennett said: "Spergon Wynn is a great quarterback. Todd Bouman is a great quarterback. As long as we execute on offense we will be fine."

Tight end Byron Chamberlain (Rhein 1996) added: "If Spergon is the guy we look forward to him coming in and doing a great job.

"He's been around all season and had the chance to watch Daunte Culpepper and Todd Bouman. Now he has the opportunity to see some action under real bullets. He came in last week and played pretty well.

"All we ask this week is that he lead us to a victory in Green Bay."
